On 30th June 2026, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tributes to the heroes of the Santhal Hul (Rebellion) on the occasion of Hul Diwas.

  • Hul Diwas is observed every year to commemorate the Santhal Hul of 1855, one of the earliest organized tribal uprisings against British colonial rule.
  • The rebellion was led by Sido Murmu, Kanhu Murmu, Chand Murmu, Bhairav Murmu, and the courageous sisters Phulo and Jhano.
  • The movement was launched against British colonial rule, exploitation of tribal communities, and oppressive revenue and land policies.
  • The Santhal Hul became a landmark chapter in India's freedom struggle and symbolized the fight for tribal identity, dignity, rights, and self-respect.
