India, Indonesia Deepen Strategic Partnership

On 7th July 2026, India and Indonesia signed key defence and economic agreements, expanding cooperation in missiles, critical minerals, maritime security, digital connectivity, agriculture and trade.

Key Points

  • Defence Cooperation: Both countries elevated defence ties through cooperation on the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system and ASTRA beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles.
  • Maritime Security: The two sides agreed to strengthen maritime cooperation through joint exercises, information sharing, hydrography, port calls, capacity building and cooperation at the IFC-IOR.
  • Defence Industry: India and Indonesia will promote joint production, technology transfer, defence research, shipbuilding, MRO facilities and resilient defence supply chains.
  • Critical Minerals: Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals and rare earths to build resilient supply chains and enhance economic security.
  • Economic Cooperation: An MoU on minerals and steel supply chains and a SAIL–PT Krakatau Steel joint venture were announced to strengthen industrial collaboration.
