On 7th July 2026, the Ministry of Education released the UDISE+ 2025-26 report, highlighting improvements in teacher strength, enrolment, retention, digital infrastructure and school facilities across the country.
Key Points
- Teacher Strength: The number of teachers increased to 1.03 crore in 2025-26 from 94.83 lakh in 2022-23, improving pupil-teacher ratios across all school stages.
- Dropout Rate: Dropout rates declined to 1.8% at the preparatory level and 7% at the secondary level, indicating better student retention.
- Retention and Enrolment: Retention rates improved at the middle and secondary stages, while the Gross Enrolment Ratio at the secondary level increased to 71.7%.
- Student Transition: Transition rates improved across all stages, with 99.2% from foundational to preparatory, 93.8% to middle and 88.3% to secondary level.
- School Availability: Single-teacher schools declined by 3%, while zero-enrolment schools reduced by around 29% compared to the previous year.
