PV Sindhu Becomes First Indian to Win Japan Open

On 19th July 2026, P.V. Sindhu became the first Indian to win the Japan Open, defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the women's singles final of the BWF Super 750 tournament in Tokyo.

• Sindhu defeated World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final.
• She became the first Indian shuttler to win the Japan Open title.
• The victory marked her maiden Japan Open title and her first BWF Super 750 title.
• It ended her seven-year wait for a Super 750-or-above title.
• The title was her first BWF World Tour title since the Syed Modi International 2024.
