White Rabbit IST Network Commissioned

On 16th July 2026, the government commissioned the White Rabbit Technology-based Indian Standard Time (IST) Dissemination Demonstration Network to enable secure and precise national time synchronisation.
Key Points
- Project Launch: The demonstration network was commissioned at the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory (RRSL), Bengaluru, under the "One Nation, One Time" initiative.
- Developing Agencies: The project was jointly developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR–National Physical Laboratory (CSIR–NPL) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
- White Rabbit Technology: This technology uses Precision Time Protocol (PTP)-based White Rabbit Technology to securely disseminate UTC (NPLI)-traceable Indian Standard Time with high precision.
- Applications: The network will support banking, financial markets, telecommunications, power grids, transportation, digital governance and other critical infrastructure.
- Secure Time Synchronisation: The project aims to reduce dependence on foreign timing sources by providing an indigenous, secure and resilient national time reference.
- Strategic Importance: A trusted national time source will strengthen cybersecurity, consumer protection, fair trade, digital infrastructure and ease of doing business.
