Gloria Steinem

On 2nd September 2026, American feminist leader Gloria Steinem died at the age of 92.

She was a writer, lecturer, activist and organiser who championed gender equality.
She co-founded Ms. Magazine, which addressed sexism, equal pay, abortion and domestic violence.
She co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus in 1971.
She also founded the Women’s Media Center and Ms. Foundation for Women.
Her 1963 investigation, ‘A Bunny’s Tale’, exposed sexism faced by Playboy bunnies.
She advocated women’s civil and reproductive rights for over five decades.
She supported feminism that included women across racial and social backgrounds.
President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
