India’s First Port-Based e-Methanol Facility
- 29 Sep 2026
On 26thSeptember 2026, the foundation stone for India’s first port-based e-methanol production facility was laid at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Gujarat, marking a step towards cleaner maritime fuels and India’s net-zero transition.
What is e-Methanol Facility?
- A state-of-the-art port-integrated industrial plant designed to produce synthetic, carbon-neutral e-methanol (green methanol) by synthesising green hydrogen generated from renewable electricity with captured biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2).
Key Features of e-Methanol Facility
- Institutional Framework: The project is a 76:24 joint venture between Deendayal Port Authority and Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd.
- Capacity: 150 tonnes per day (TPD), developed in two phases.
- Inputs: Renewable power, desalinated water and captured biogenic CO₂.
Significance for India’s Maritime Decarbonisation
- It can support maritime decarbonisation, green hydrogen adoption, clean-fuel exports and India’s Net Zero target by 2070, while strengthening inter-state industrial cooperation.
