Research Drive on Marine Pollution & Green Hydrogen

In May 2025, India and the European Union jointly launched two major research initiatives under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), focusing on marine pollution mitigation and sustainable green hydrogen production.

Key Points

Joint Investment: ₹391 crore (~€41 million) allocated to fund cutting-edge research projects under the TTC platform.
Marine Pollution Project: Co-funded by India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences and the EU, it aims to assess and reduce pollutants like microplastics and heavy metals in marine ecosystems.
Green Hydrogen Initiative: Targets biogenic waste-to-hydrogen tech development, backed by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the EU.
Global & National Alignment: Supports UN Decade of Ocean Science, India’s National Marine Litter Policy, the EU’s Zero Pollution Plan, and Hydrogen Strategy.
