On 19th May 2025, Union Home Minister announced a pilot launch of the “e-Zero FIR” system in Delhi to automatically convert high-value cybercrime complaints into FIRs.
Key Highlights:
- Automatic FIR Generation: Cyber complaints above Rs. 10 lakh, filed via 1930 helpline or NCRP, now auto-convert into FIRs under the new e-Zero FIR system.
- Pilot in Delhi: Launched as a pilot project in Delhi, with nationwide rollout planned soon.
- Integrated Tech Framework: The system integrates I4C’s NCRP, Delhi Police’s e-FIR platform, and NCRB’s CCTNS, ensuring fast registration and tracking.
- Jurisdiction Flexibility: FIRs registered electronically will be zero FIRs, not restricted by territory, and routed to local cybercrime stations.
- Victim Support: Victims can convert the zero FIR into a regular FIR within 3 days by visiting a cybercrime police station.
- Legal Backing: The process is aligned with new provisions under Section 173 (1) & (1)(ii) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita.
- Aim: Enhance speed of investigation, improve money recovery, and build a ‘cyber-secure Bharat’ through proactive and tech-led policing.
