Veteran Actor Kalyan Chattopadhyay Passes Away

On 7th December 2025, veteran Bengali actor Kalyan Chattopadhyay passed away at the age of 82 after being hospitalised for age-related ailments.

  • Kalyan Chattopadhyay, born in 1942 in Berhampore of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, built a prolific acting career spanning more than five decades.
  • He graduated from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, which played a significant role in shaping his artistic foundation and cinematic approach.
  • Chattopadhyay began his film career in 1968 with Tapan Sinha’s iconic film Apanjan, which marked the beginning of his long-lasting presence in Bengali cinema.
  • He worked with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in Pratidwandi, a critically acclaimed film that further cemented his place as a serious performer in Indian cinema.
