Morocco Reach Highest-Ever FIFA Men’s Ranking

On 19th January 2026, Morocco national football team achieved their highest-ever FIFA men’s ranking, rising to 8th, despite losing the Africa Cup of Nations final to Senegal national football team.
- Senegal defeated Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the final held in Rabat, with Morocco missing a last-minute penalty during regulation time.
- Morocco climbed three places from their previous position; their earlier best ranking was 10th in April 1998, following their 2022 World Cup semi-final run.
- Senegal, champions for the second time in the last three editions, jumped seven spots to 12th, marking their highest-ever FIFA ranking (previous best: 17th in 2024).
- Historically, the highest FIFA ranking by an African team remains Nigeria national football team at 5th in April 1994, while Egypt national football team hold the best Arab ranking at 9th in July 2010.
