India-Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Forestry Sector

On 8th September 2026, India and Japan reviewed forestry cooperation during the 7th Joint Working Group meeting in Bengaluru.

- Tree Outside Forests: Both sides exchanged approaches for assessing and managing trees outside designated forests.
- Forest Genetics: Discussions covered genetic resource conservation, tree breeding and improved planting material.
- Forest Stack: Cooperation includes forest inventory, stock assessment and geospatial monitoring technologies.
- 2027–2031 Roadmap: Both countries endorsed a new roadmap under their 2015 Memorandum of Cooperation.
- Capacity Building: The roadmap promotes cooperation in biodiversity conservation, research and institutional capacity building.
