  • International Olympic Day is celebrated on June 23 to encourage more people to participate in the Olympic games and raise awareness about the number of sports held during this event.
  • The theme of International Olympic Day 2021: Stay healthy, stay strong, stay active with the #OlympicDay workout on 23 June.
  • The modern-day Olympic games are inspired by the ancient Olympic Games held in Olympia, Greece between the 8th century BC and the 4th century AD.
  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was found in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin and the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896.
  • This year is special given the highly-anticipated Summer Olympics in Tokyo, scheduled to be held between July 23 and August 8. Delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will, however, still be referred to as the ‘2020 Tokyo Olympics’. A total of 339 events across 33 sports are lined up at the Games.
