Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth

On 13th June 2026, the Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) with effect from the 30th June 2026.

He is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.
He will succeed General Upendra Dwivedi, who is retiring from service on 30th June 2026.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy.
He was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986.
He has nearly four decades of military service spanning operational, strategic, capability development and institutional domains.
