Veteran Filmmaker K. Bhagyaraj

On 27th June 2026, veteran Tamil film director, writer, and actor K. Bhagyaraj passed away in Chennai at the age of 73 following a heart attack.

K. Bhagyaraj was widely known as the "Screenplay King" for his exceptional storytelling and screenplay writing in Tamil cinema.
He began his film career as a junior artist in Bharathiraja's 16 Vayathinile (1977) before becoming a successful director and actor.
He made his directorial debut with Suvarilladha Chiththirangal (1979) and debuted as a lead actor in Puthiya Vaarpugal (1979).
His breakthrough film, Oru Kai Osai (1980), established him as one of the most influential filmmakers in Tamil cinema.
