Vijaya Mehta

On 30th June 2026, noted film and theatre personality Vijaya Mehta passed away at the age of 92.

Vijaya Mehta was regarded as one of the pioneers of experimental Marathi theatre and was fondly known as “Bai.”
Through the theatre group Rangayan, she introduced a new theatrical language, innovative stagecraft, and globally-inspired perspectives to Marathi theatre.
Her landmark theatre productions include Barrister, Sakharam Binder, Hamidabaichi Kothi, Mahanirvan, Purush, Hayavadana, and Wada Chirebandi.
