ISRO Conducts Gaganyaan IMAT-05 Test

On 7th July 2026, ISRO successfully conducted the fifth Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Test (IMAT-05) for the Gaganyaan Mission at the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) drop zone in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh.

- Objective: The test was conducted to validate the structural integrity and performance of the Main Parachute under maximum expected load conditions for the Gaganyaan G1 mission.
- Descent Sequence: The test involved extractor, drogue and main parachutes to stabilise, decelerate and safely lower the payload.
- Parachute System: The Gaganyaan Crew Module's deceleration system consists of 10 parachutes, including apex cover separation, drogue, pilot and main parachutes.
- Significance: The successful IMAT-05 test strengthens confidence in the reliability of the Main Parachute System for the first uncrewed Gaganyaan (G1) mission.
