  • It was enacted in 1985 to fulfill India's treaty obligations under the Single convention on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 & AMRUT 2.0

On 1st October, 2021, the government launched the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 .

In pursuance of the Prime Minister’s vision, the schemes, with an outlay of about ₹ 4.4 Lakh Crore, will adopt ‘Universal Approach’ and make a move towards ‘Saturation’ in sanitation and water availability in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

India Bags IAEA External Auditor Job

  • India has been elected as the external auditor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a prestigious institution that promotes peaceful use of nuclear energy, for a period of six years from 2022 to 2027 after beating Germany and the United Kingdom among other counties.
  • India's Comptroller and Auditor General GC Murmu was selected as the external auditor of IAEA.

Swachh Survekshan 2022

On 27th September 2021, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the seventh consecutive edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS), the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey conducted by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).

  • ‘People First’: Designed with ‘People First’ as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan 2022 is curated towards capturing the initiatives of cities for the overall welfare and well-being of frontline sanitation workers.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

On 27th September 2021, Prime Minister Launched Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

  • Ayushman Bharat – Digital Mission, will now connect the digital health solutions of hospitals across the country with each other. The Mission will not only make the processes of hospitals simplified but also will increase ease of living.

India-Oman sign MoU on White Shipping Information Exchange

  • On 27th September 2021, Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsen Al-Rahbi, Commander of Royal Navy of Oman (CRNO) and Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy signed an MoU for exchange of White Shipping Information.
  • The MoU was signed at Maritime Security Center (MSC), Muscat during the ongoing visit of the CNS to Oman.

‘Akash Prime’ Test Fired Successfully

On 27th September 2021, a new version of the Akash Missile, ‘Akash Prime’ was successfully flight- tested from Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.

  • In comparison to the existing Akash System, Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active Radio Frequency seeker for improved accuracy.

Assam’s Rice Wine ‘Judima’ receives GI Tag

Assam’s traditional Judima wine has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

  • It is made from rice and a certain herb and widely popular among the Dimasa tribals.
  • Judima is inseparable from the social and cultural life of the Dimasas.

Iceland elects Europe’s first Women-majority Parliament

Iceland has become the first country in Europe to have more women than men in Parliament.

  • Of the 63 seats in the Althing parliament, 33 were won by women, or 52%.
  • No other European country has had more than 50% women lawmakers, with Sweden coming closest at 47%, according to data compiled by the World Bank.

Naga Cucumber receives GI Tag

Nagaland's "sweet cucumber" was awarded a geographical identification (GI) tag as an agricultural product under provisions of The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.

  • The cucumber is one of the most important crops in the Northeast region.
  • Nagaland has the fifth-highest cultivation of this fruit area-wise, and ranks third in production.
