All India Survey on Domestic Workers

On 22nd November 2021, Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri Bhupender Yadav flagged off the first ever All India Survey on Domestic Workers.

  • It will be conducted by Labour Bureau, Chandigarh.

Healthcare Equity in Urban India

Recently, a report “Healthcare equity in urban India” was released by Azim Premji University in collaboration with 17 regional NGOs across India.

The report explored health vulnerabilities and inequalities in cities in India. It also looked at the availability, accessibility and cost of healthcare facilities, and possibilities in future-proofing services in the next decade.


ASER 2021: Annual Status of Education Report (Rural)

On 17th November 2021, the 16th Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2021 (Rural) was released by Pratham foundation, an innovative learning organization created to improve the quality of education.

  • The report was prepared on the basis of the telephonic survey conducted in rural areas of 581 districts across 25 states and three union territories between September and October. As many as 76,706 households, 7,299 schools in 17,184 villages across India were covered in the survey.

PRL Ahmedabad Researchers discover ‘Hot Jupiter’ HD 82139b

Scientists from the Ahmedabad-based Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) have discovered an exoplanet that is 725 light years away from us and orbiting an ageing star that has 1.5 times the mass of our Sun.

  • The star is known as HD 82139 as per the Henry Draper catalogue and TOI 1789 as per the TESS catalogue. Hence, the planet is known as TOI 1789b or HD 82139b as per the IAU nomenclature.

‘Pochampally’ wins UNWTO’s ‘Best Tourism Villages’ Award

Pochampally village in Telangana has been selected as one of the best Tourism Villages by United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

  • The Award will be given on the occasion of the 24th session of the UNWTO General Assembly on 2nd December 2021 in Madrid, Spain

LlFlC: India’s First Fisheries Business Incubator Launched in Gurugram

The Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying recently inaugurated India’s first-of-its kind, dedicated business incubator to be known as LINAC (Laxmanrao Inamdar National Academy for Co-operative Research & Development) – NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation)

  • Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LlFlC) in Haryana’s Gurugram to nurture fisheries start-ups under real market-led conditions.

Rani Kamlapati: The Last Hindu Queen of Bhopal

The Habibganj railway station in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has been renamed after 18th-century Gond Queen of Bhopal, Rani Kamlapati – the last Hindu Queen of Bhopal.

  • Kamlapati was daughter of Raja Kirpal Singh Sarautia of the princely state of Salkanpur, Sehore. She is known for her intelligence and courage.

Meghalaya celebrates ‘Wangala’ Festival

This year, Wangala Festival was started in Meghalaya on 12 November. Usually, this celebration lasts for two days, but sometimes it can continue for a week also.

  • The Wangala Festival, also known as the 100 drum festival is celebrated in Meghalaya.

New Protocol for Post-mortem Procedure

The Union Health Ministry has notified new protocol for post-mortem procedure.

After Sunset Clause

  • As per the new protocol, post-mortem can now be performed after sunset in hospitals having adequate infrastructure.

41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica

India has launched the 41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica with the arrival of the first batch of its contingent at the southern white continent. The first batch comprising of 23 scientists and support staff reached the Indian Antarctic station Maitri recently.

  • Four more batches shall be landing in Antarctica by air using DROMLAN facility and onboard chartered ice-class vessel MV VasiliyGolovnin by mid-January 2022.
