It is the second longest river in Kerala with a length of 209 kilometers.

Origin

The river originates in the Annamalai hills located in the Western Ghats region in Tamil Nadu.

Course

It flows in the west direction along with the many of its tributaries including the Tirur River through Palakkad Gap, Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts of Kerala.
The Kannadippuzha and Kalpathippuza, the tributaries of Bharathapuzha meet at Parli and flows in the west direction as Bharathapuzha River.
The Bharathapuzha River then surrenders itself into the Arabian Sea at Ponnani.

Main Tributaries

Gayathripuzha River, Kannadipuzha River, Kalpathipuzha River and Thuthapuzha River are the main tributaries of the Bharathapuzha.

NandadeviNational Park

The Nanda Devi National Park or Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, established in 1982 is a national park situated around the peak of Nanda Devi (7816 m) in the state of Uttarakhand.
The Park was established as Sanjay Gandhi National Park by Notification in 1982 but was later renamed Nanda Devi National Park.
It was inscribed a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1988.

P-waves

These are the first waves detected by seismographs (instruments used to detect and record earthquakes).
These are longitudinal waves which means they vibrate along the same direction as they travel.
Examples of longitudinal waves include sound waves and waves in a stretched spring.

S-waves

These waves arrive at the detector after primary waves.
These are transverse waves which means they vibrate at a right angle to the direction in which they travel.
Examples of transverse waves include light waves and water waves.

Difference

Both types of seismic waves can be detected near the earthquake centre but only P-waves can be detected on the other side of the Earth.
P-waves can travel through solids and liquids (since they are longitudinal waves) whereas S-waves can only travel through solids (as they are transverse waves).
This means the liquid part of the core blocks the passage of S-waves.

Teesta River (or Tista River) is a 315 km long river that rises in the eastern Himalayas, flows through the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal .
