Teesta River (or Tista River) is a 315 km long river that rises in the eastern Himalayas, flows through the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal .
The river originates from the Pahunri (or Teesta Kangse) glacier above 7,068 metres (23,189 ft), and flows southward through gorges and rapids in the Sikkim Himalaya.
It is joined by the river Rangpo Chu at Rangpo settlement (which is the entrance to East-Sikkim) and then it forms a boundary between Sikkim and West Bengal. The River then flows through Darjeeling district.
The main tributary of river Teesta, the Rangit River meets it just before the Teesta bridge.
Teesta joins the Bramhaputra River (Jamuna River) at Fulchhari in Bangladesh.

The Park was established as Sanjay Gandhi National Park by Notification in 1982 but was later renamed Nanda Devi National Park.
It was inscribed a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1988.

These are longitudinal waves which means they vibrate along the same direction as they travel.
Examples of longitudinal waves include sound waves and waves in a stretched spring.

S-waves

These waves arrive at the detector after primary waves.
These are transverse waves which means they vibrate at a right angle to the direction in which they travel.
Examples of transverse waves include light waves and water waves.

Difference

Both types of seismic waves can be detected near the earthquake centre but only P-waves can be detected on the other side of the Earth.
P-waves can travel through solids and liquids (since they are longitudinal waves) whereas S-waves can only travel through solids (as they are transverse waves).
This means the liquid part of the core blocks the passage of S-waves.
