High-Energy Medical Cyclotron Project (HEMCP) Approved

On 16th June 2026, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved the establishment of a High-Energy Medical Cyclotron Project (HEMCP) in Nagpur at an estimated cost of ₹300 crore.

  • The project aims to develop Nagpur into a Radiopharmaceutical Innovation Hub for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • It will ensure local production and availability of critical radioisotopes used in PET-CT scans and Nuclear Medicine services.
  • The initiative will reduce dependence on major healthcare hubs such as Mumbai and Hyderabad for radiopharmaceutical supplies.
  • The project will be implemented on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between the Medical Education Department and the Industry Department.
